PiCAT Verification Test
The Verification Test, or Vtest, is the proctored step that follows the unproctored PiCAT. It takes place at a MEPS or MET site within 45 days of the PiCAT and typically lasts 25 to 30 minutes. Its stated purpose is “to assess consistency of test performance across two occasions.”
What verification changes
If the Vtest succeeds, the PiCAT scores become the applicant’s official ASVAB scores of record. If it does not succeed, a follow-on full ASVAB is administered and that test becomes the score of record instead.
The Vtest requires a PiCAT AFQT of at least 10. It returns no score to the applicant.
What is published—and what is not
The Department of Defense does not publish:
- the Vtest question count;
- which subtests it covers;
- whether it is adaptive; or
- its numeric pass line.
Candidates report about 30 questions; the Department of Defense does not publish a number.
The 45-day clock
The Vtest must be taken within 45 days of taking the PiCAT. This is separate from the access-code clock and the PiCAT completion clock:

How to prepare honestly
Take the PiCAT without assistance. Use the same ability on the proctored follow-up. If you took the PiCAT unaided, there is nothing to reproduce; your ability is what reproduces.

Collaboration detection
The DoD Advisory Committee on Military Personnel Testing reported in June 2024 that up to 30% of PiCAT takers do not pass the Vtest, attributing that result to detection of collaboration during testing. This is a cheating-detection figure, not a claim about honest candidates.

Your recruiter registers you for the PiCAT and can tell you where your MEPS or MET verification appointment will take place. The Department of Defense does not publish the Vtest details listed above, so PicatDrill does not guess at them.
